BioXell S.p.A. (SIX: BXLN) is a listed biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of drugs that exploit novel mechanisms of action.

The Company is currently focusing its development efforts on the progression of its preclinical monoclonal antibody BXL1H5 for the treatment of chronic pain, a condition that drastically impact people’s quality of life and has very high economic costs to society.

Following the conclusion of our Vitamin D3 related R&D activities in urological indications, BioXell is also looking into a number of strategic options in line with the demands of its Shareholders.

BioXell has a number of valuable assets with therapeutic and clinical potential in its pipeline. As the Company is no longer developing these assets internally for strategic reasons, BioXell is assessing value-maximizing strategies including potential out-licensing to interested development partners for the following assets:

  • BXL746, a Vitamin D3 analogue that has yield positive clinical data in the prevention of post-surgical adhesions and is ready to move into a Phase I study (IND received)
  • Elocalcitol, which has shown efficacy and safety in clinical studies in BPH
  • Proprietary technology associated with TREM-1 which plays an important role in both acute and chronic inflammatory responses, including inflammatory bowel disease
  • A large proprietary library of Vitamin D3 analogues

The Company was founded in 2002 as a spin-out from Roche. In June 2006, BioXell listed its shares on the main segment of the SIX Swiss Exchange. The Company currently employs 20 people and is based in Milan, Italy.
